Supporting Tamsin Bowden’s Recovery Race Challenge

We’re incredibly proud to share the story of Tamsin Bowden, a valued member of our Gifted & Talented Scheme, whose strength, spirit and determination are truly inspiring. Since returning to work at the end of January following major surgery, Tamsin has thrown herself back into training, not just for her own recovery, but to make a meaningful difference to others.

Her post-op self is just as passionate about fitness as ever. She’s been training hard around her other commitments and believes that regaining her fitness has helped counteract the side effects of her medication and manage tough menopause symptoms.

Tamsin’s comeback started strong with a 3rd place finish in the local Bishampton Duathlon in March, which was her first race back. That confidence boost led her to compete in a European Duathlon Qualifier at Mallory Park just weeks later, where she unexpectedly won her age group. Now, her sights are set on her main race of the year: the Cardiff Bay Triathlon in June, a World Championship qualifier and her biggest challenge yet, especially with her self-confessed “very average” swimming!

On top of this, Tamsin has signed up for the London to Paris cycle ride this July to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thanks to the generosity of her supportive friends and colleagues, she’s already raised nearly £2,000! This term, she’s also taking her fundraising efforts into school, with three assembly slots lined up to share her story and inspire others.

Upcoming Challenges:

  • Cardiff Bay Triathlon – June
A World Championship qualifier and Tamsin’s biggest focus for the year.

  • London to Paris Cycle Ride – July
A multi-day endurance challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

These events are more than just races, they’re milestones in Tamsin’s recovery and a way to give back to a cause incredibly close to her heart. With Macmillan supporting more people than ever, fundraising like Tamsin’s truly makes a difference.

We’re behind Tamsin every step of the way, and we encourage our wider community to do the same, whether that’s through donating, cheering her on, or simply sharing her story.

How You Can Help

Tamsin has set up a fundraising page where you can learn more about her journey and donate directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Please take a moment to support this incredible effort. Together, we can help Tamsin reach her goal, and make sure that more people affected by cancer receive the support they need.

Thank you Tamsin, for your strength, your drive and your commitment to making a difference!
