Big Changes Ahead for Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre

You may have already heard the news… our Droitwich site is set for a major redevelopment, with work starting this August. If you haven’t yet taken a look at what’s planned, you can read the full details and updates here. But today, we want to take a moment to talk about why this information matters, and what it means for you, our members, families, schools, swim learners and the wider Droitwich community.

More Than Just a Pool

The most exciting addition will be a brand new learner pool, built alongside our existing 25 metre pool. This will unlock so much potential for the centre. It means we’ll finally be able to deliver a full programme of swimming lessons without impacting lane swimming, aqua classes or specialist sessions. If you’re training, learning, recovering or just enjoying the water, there will be space for it all.

It also means we’ll be able to support more local schools and families than ever before. We know how important it is for children to learn to swim early, not just for fitness but as a life saving skill. The new pool gives us the tools to make that happen in a more inclusive, flexible and accessible way.

Designed Around You

This redevelopment isn’t just about adding a new pool, though. It’s also about modernising and improving every step of the user experience.

From the moment you walk through the door (and from the outside), you’ll notice the difference, starting with a new reception area and cafe, all the way through to updated wet and dry changing rooms, better ventilation and a more seamless journey from check in to poolside.

Behing the scenes, the centre will also become more sustainable. With the installation of air source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels and upgraded heating and ventilation systems, we’re creating a space that feels better and is better for the environment to. It’s all part of Wychavon District Council’s wider goal to reach net zero.

Built for the Community, Backed by the Council

This £13 million investment is being led by Wychavon District Council and delivered in partnership with a specialist team through the UK Leisure Framework. When you include the additional investment in car park improvements, the total reaches £15 million, a clear commitment to the long term future of leisure in Droitwich.

As the team at Rivers, we’re proud to be delivering this project on the ground. Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre has served the community for more than 25 years, and our goal is to make sure it continues to do so, even better than before.

What Happens Next?

Work is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with completion expected in summer 2026. We’ll continue to keep our members and visitors updated throughout the process, including what to expect during the works, key dates and how you can make the most of our facilities in the meantime.

You can find the latest updates here.

In the meantime, we want to thank all our members and visitors for being part of this journey so far. Your continued support helps shape the future of the centre and ensures we can deliver a space that works for everyone, from casual swimmers and gym goers, to schools, families and future athletes.

Big changes are on the way, and we can’t wait to welcome you into the next era of Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.
