The STA Starfish Awards are an innovative series of progressive awards designed to introduce babies and young children to the water in a safe, supportive and engaging environment. With parents or carers in the water throughout the sessions, children begin developing confidence, movement and water safety skills through fun games, activities and exploration. The programme focuses on creating positive early experiences in the water while supporting physical, social and emotional development.
-
Our STAnley sessions help toddlers and young children gain confidence and independence in the water through fun, structured activities. With a qualified teacher in the water for support and guidance (no parent required), children work through the STA STAnley Awards, developing key aquatic and water safety skills while preparing for the next stage of their swimming journey.
As children progress through the STAnley Awards, they build confidence moving independently in the water, developing important skills such as floating, submerging, travelling short distances and safe water movement through engaging activities and games.

Our Learn to Swim programme follows the STA Learn to Swim Programme (LSP) Stages 1-7, a progressive swimming pathway designed for primary school aged children. These structured lessons help children develop essential swimming technique, water safety awareness and aquatic skills while building confidence and independence in the water.
Teachers work both in and out of the pool (depending on the stage) to provide the right balance of guidance, support and progression as your child develops through the programme.
Suitable for ages 4+.
The STA Learn to Swim Programme Stages 1–7 are designed to provide a clear and enjoyable progression pathway for young swimmers. Each stage builds upon the previous one, helping children develop confidence, core aquatic movement skills, stroke technique and vital water safety knowledge.
Throughout the programme, swimmers work towards achieving a range of outcomes that support safe, effective and confident swimming. As children progress through the stages, they gradually improve stamina, coordination, breathing control and stroke development across all major swimming strokes.
Each stage includes clear outcomes and skill objectives that must be achieved before progressing to the next level, ensuring swimmers develop strong foundations and confidence at every step of their swimming journey.
-
The STA Advaced Series Awards are designed for swimmers progressing beyond the core Learn to Swim stages and looking to further develop their technique, stamina and overall ability in the water.
These advanced awards encourage swimmers to refine all major strokes, improve endurance and build greater confidence through more challenging aquatic skills and swimming distances. There is a strong focus on developing efficient stroke technique, breathing control, water safety awareness and overall swimming proficiency.
The programme helps swimmers continue progressing in a structured and rewarding way while preparing them for future aquatic opportunities and lifelong participation in swimming.
