Why Learn to Swim With Us?

Being able to swim is one of the most valuable life skills you can give your child.

At Rivers, our swimming lessons teach important water safety skills and also build confidence and inspire a love of being active from an early age.

We welcome children from as young as 4 months old, with fun, supportive lessons designed for every age and ability.

  • Our Discovery Duckling sessions are the perfect introduction to the water for little ones aged 4 months to 3 years. With a parent or carer in the water for reassurance, these fun and gentle lessons help children gain early water confidence while working towards four Discovery Duckling Awards.

    • Parent or carer in the water to support their child

    • Helps build water confidence through play

    • £32.50 per month (Direct Debit) or 10 sessions for £78.00

The Swim England Pre-School Framework Awards introduce babies and young children to the water in a safe, supportive way. Parents or carers join their child in the pool to help them feel comfortable and confident. Through fun games and activities, children begin to explore the water and build the foundations for learning to swim.

  • Ducklings lessons help toddlers gain confidence and independence in the water through fun, structured activities. With a qualified teacher in the pool for support (no parent required), children work through four Duckling Awards that build key swimming skills and prepare them for Stage 1 of the Learn to Swim Framework.

By Duckling 1, children begin moving independently in the water, and by Duckling 4, they can jump in, go underwater, float and swim up to 10 metres without support.

    • Teacher in the water with the children

    • Small class size – 1 teacher to 6 children

These Swim England Pre-School Framework Awards are a natural follow on from the Discovery Duckling Awards. They are aimed at children who are old enough to follow instructions and can move on their own.

They give the child more independence and start to build their confidence in water. These Awards are used to slowly build up the child ready for the Learn to Swim Framework Stages 1-7.

  • Our Learn to Swim programme follows Swim England Stages 1-7 - the national syllabus for primary school–aged children. These progressive lessons help children develop key swimming and safety skills, building confidence and competence in the water.

Teachers work both in and out of the pool (depending on the stage) to provide the right balance of guidance and independence as your child progresses.

    • Suitable for ages 4+

The Learn to Swim Stage 1-7 Awards are divided into progressive stages. They make up the core, national syllabus of learning to swim for primary school aged children.

They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water.

Each of the Learn to Swim Stage 1-7 Awards has a list of clear outcomes that need to be completed in order to gain each Award.

  • Swim England Swimming Challenge Awards are for young people working towards the latter stages of Learn to Swim Stages 1-7

Your children will be challenged to develop a wide range of skills and stamina in order to achieve the Awards, with a focus on good stroke style.
