Working With the NHS to Strengthen Community Health

At a time when access to rehabilitation support is helping more people stay active and independent, and NHS services are supporting more patients than ever, collaboration between sectors is key. That’s why our partnership with the local NHS trust across our sites, including Evesham Leisure Centre, is delivering real results for the local community.

The physio-led strength programme was created to help bridge the gap between clinical treatment and everyday activity. It provides a 12-week personalised exercise plan that's developed by trained physiotherapists, designed to support people recovering from injury, surgery or ongoing conditions.

But what makes this programme stand out is the setting, a familiar, friendly leisure centre where participants can rebuild strength and confidence outside of a clinical environment. It's a model that combines NHS expertise with the inclusive, people-first approach at the heart of everything we do.

"This is more than just a gym session. For many, it's a turning point in their recovery journey," says Simon Meadows, Clinical Lead Physiotherapist.

The classes are accessible, affordable and focused on long term wellbeing and recovery. Feedback from participants consistently highlights the physical improvements and also increased confidence, reduced isolation and a stronger sense of belonging. These outcomes matter, and they show the power of delivering healthcare support through community spaces.

This partnership was made possible by shared values and a commitment to public health from both our leisure team and NHS partners – Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust. As Kay, one of our longest serving team members, reflected before her retirement, partnerships like this are vital to the future of inclusive, preventative healthcare.

We're proud to offer this programme at Evesham Leisure Centre and this collaboration has been rolled out more widely across the region.

For leisure operators healthcare providers and local authorities looking to create similar impact, this is proof of what's possible when we work together.
