Setting 2018 Hurdle Records

Rivers Elite Hurdle Athlete, Heather Paton, has had a successful 2018 indoor season. Heather is celebrating her multiple achievements & awards that she has gained throughout a very successful year.

How did 2018 go for you?

“The indoor season of 2018 proved successful, I equalled my Scottish National record of 8.34 in the 60m hurdles and also lowered my own native record, whilst winning Gold at the Senior Scottish National Championships. Also during the indoor season I made the final of the British Championships, where I came 5th, after winning my heat to qualify me and then later I was ranked 6th in the U.K., 1st in Scotland in the senior rankings, and 3rd in the British U23 rankings.”

“My strong training block in between the indoor and outdoor season meant that I opened my season with a big personal best of 13.36 (previously 13.47), which was only 0.01 away from the Scottish National Record for the 100m hurdles… The season continued to go well also running personal bests in the 100m of 12.22/12.12w (previously 12.54)!”

“All building up to the British Outdoor Championships. After a fall at the British championships, this unfortunately left me with a very large burn and some severe bruising which then hampered both training and competing in the following weeks. However, I was very pleased to come away from The Scottish Senior Outdoor Championships at Grangemouth with the Gold and then finishing the season ranked 8th in the senior British rankings, 4th in the U23 rankings, 1st in the Scottish Senior and U23 rankings!”

What are you expecting from 2019?

“I am aiming to qualify for the indoor European championships – which seems very fitting being held in Glasgow at the track where I have set both my Native and National records! I of course also want to lower these and to also have the outdoor records to my name.”

“I have finished the season fit and healthy with the help of the facilities at Rivers, and I’m more determined than ever for next season. I can’t tell you enough how grateful I am for your continued support and wouldn’t be able to continue with what I am doing without your help.”
